Well folks it’s that time of year again Good ol’ Summertime! The sky is clear, the air is warm and everybody is outdoors… including your pets. So are they prepared? Check it out,… you prepare right? You slather on sunscreen, wear lighter more exposed clothing, eat lighter and most importantly hydrate more often.

Well pets need to be prepared also. First on the list is protection against fleas, ticks and other undesirable pests that can bite and infect your furry family members. Not to mention hitch a ride and take up residence in your home YUCK!

Our favorite products are topical treatments such as Advantage or Frontline. Our preference with Beijo is to keep it natural. Dr. Mercola Healthy Pets products are Awesome! Try his Natural Flea & Tick Defense Spray this formula is FANTASTIC! It includes Lemongrass oil, Cinnamon oil, Sesame oil, Castor oil and purified water.

This formula confuses the chemical sensory factor that your pet throws off to predators (fleas & ticks that is) so that they blend right in to their environment. Plus your pet will smell great! It’s not sticky and doesn’t stain their fur. It’s also safe for puppies and kittens.

Second you should always be equipped with a foldable, collapsable water bowl and water to keep your pet hydrated while out doors. These are so convenient, not to mention COOL! You can get them in assorted colors to match your furry family members leash and other accessories. They are very reasonably priced and lightweight so that they can be folded up and carried in a small space.

Remember to celebrate hot days with treats from the freezer. One of Beijo’s favorites is watered down chicken broth ice cubes (NO SALT ADDED) or just plain ice cubes. Beijo loves them, we put them in a special bowl he recognizes immediately he enjoys it to the fullest.

There are a great assortment of frozen treats on the market. Frozen Pet Gelato is one of our favorites, specifically “The Bear & The Rat Dog Gelato” (for cats also). They come in 3 assorted flavors and pets absolutely go nuts for them.

During this time of year don’t forget about outside water activities. You can turn your backyard into a water amusement park with wading pools and soft sprinklers, dogs love it! For Beijo we got him his very own Fountain Of Youth that sits on our terrace.

It’s a water fountain that we’ve given him. Only filtered water flows through it because remember Pets should NEVER DRINK TAP WATER! It builds up deposits in the kidneys and will lead to bladder issues, not to mention Renal Failure in cats.

Summer is a great time to enjoy the outdoors. Just remember to have a shady oasis for your pet to enjoy breaks in the shade and all will be well. Pets get dehydrated just like us and can suffer from heat exhaustion. NEVER LEAVE YOUR PET IN THE CAR ON A HOT DAY!… Yes even if the windows are partly down.

If the mercury is really high and it’s an extremely hot day. Do everybody a favor and leave your pet at home with a fan and plenty of water until it cools off outside and then take them out.

Now get out there & enjoy the sun and Remember Pets Rule!!!

Daniele & Beijo

Not to brag or anything… but I did fantastically well on this test and I know I’m not the only one out there that rates this high. I scored a 42!

No this is NOT a scientific test. However the following questions may give you a better idea about your pets intelligence and visual skills. Not to mention their problem solving abilities and training. Meaning have we been listening to what you want us to do all this time and playing dumb?… Well let’s find out!

Has this ever happened to you? HA! HA! I bet I know the answer… YES! You’re not alone. Our furry family members all do this to us. I believe they are the perfect example of the Jackson 5 song “I wanna be where you are” because it’s true they do.

Yeah we know going to the bathroom to handle your business usually is a private thing… but not when you have pets! They don’t care where you are or what you’re doing they want to be involved, if not right in the middle of it.

When you live with pets in the home my best advice has always been look down before you step, and of course look behind you because you might accidentally close the door on them and nobody wants that.

Beijo makes me laugh! Even if it’s in the middle of the night and I get up groggy feeling my way through the dark to go to the bathroom. By the time I get there and turn on the light he’s there too.

I have reassured him time after time I’m coming right back to bed so he can stay put, but he just has to come along. So there we are together. I yawn, and then he yawns I wash my hands and settle into bed and he settles back into his spot to go back to sleep.

So what’s up with this? Well, simply put pets want to participate in most things we do, the glamorous and well… not so glamorous. For example have you ever been down on the floor on your hands and knees plugging in something only to back up and find you have company?

Beijo is sooo nosey. Sometimes I say to him “you don’t even know why you’re down here.” But I’m sure he’s got his reasons, even if it’s only because he’s curious. Pets are great companions to have because no matter where we’re are going, or what we’re are doing most of them have enthusiasm just to participate.

So I say take a patient deep breath and enjoy all of it. And remember there’s probably no one in the world that loves you this much and craves your attention on this level.

Remember in the animal kingdom for the most part when families do activities it’s together. Whether it’s hunting, eating, sleeping and yes going to the bathroom. Also I know many of you have a relationship with your pet like I do with Beijo. Meaning he’s my baby, and boy does he know it.

He even has a meow that signifies when he’s really feeling like a baby. That being said, have you ever seen how animals bond with their mothers?… They are inseparable. So being in the bathroom really isn’t that big a deal… but it’s still funny.

In times past I have closed the door to him, and unless I really need some privacy by now he’s beat me into submission by making me feel guilty meowing on the other side of the door until I eventually let him in.

Nowadays I don’t even think twice about it anymore. I just make sure he’s in before I shut the door… unless we’re home alone and then I don’t even shut the door ( I know that’s probably too much info. but I know you guys can relate).

We know all of you have your own pet stories on this subject and we would love for you to share how you roll in your house about this subject. PLEASE SHARE until next time Remember Pets Rule!!!

“Love is in the air. Can you feel it?… Amor’e is all around us. It is my opinion we get so caught up in our minds with our to-do-lists ect. We forget to slow down and take a look.”

This article is dedicated to the loyal pets in our lives that love us on a consistent basis. Which includes putting up with our moods, work schedules, new & old smells and noises, hobbies and other animals etc. etc. etc. and love us unconditionally without hesitation.

“Sometimes I wonder what Beijo is thinking… (yes even I don’t know sometimes) he’s so patient with me with the hustle and bustle of my busy schedule. Then there are those times when he meows LOUDLY and sits on my purse. That’s my clue to slow down, sit down and give him his attention.”

“Whether that means a full on romp session with one of his favorite toys or a kitty snuggle break with him in my lap or arms being stroked and kissed while speaking to him in his favorite mommy voice.”

“I mean let’s be honest here one of the best parts of our pets day (and ours too) is when we come home.”

For the most part pets tend to sleep most of the day until we return home from work (it’s one of the ways they cope with separation anxiety). Let’s face it most of the time we don’t want to leave them either. I know I’m not the only one that hesitantly left out of the door for work or a business trip feeling horribly guilty.

Sometimes, I swear I can see the heartbreak on Beijo’s face as I slowly close the front door. Man… some days I tell him “don’t you think I would rather be here hanging out with you?”

I know he understands me because a lot of the time he’ll let me off the hook by going to eat from his food bowl or simply turn over and go to sleep. Which, trust me I’m grateful for because I don’t have to see those beautiful green eyes looking so sad at me.

Pets show us they love us in a million ways, whether it’s it’s barking or meowing enthusiastically when you come in the door (depending on if you have a cat or dog of course) to bouncing up and down until you put your keys or purse down to rub their heads or sit down.

No matter what kind of pet you have the #1 sign they convey they love you is all in the eyes. There is a reason why it is said “The eyes are the windows to the soul.” When you gaze into your pets eyes there is a tangible connection between them and us, I know you’ve felt it!

There is sooo much that can be said without words. Don’t get me wrong Beijo Has P-L-E-N-T-Y to say! There are times when he’s in a lovy mood and he’ll start to walk over to me slowly blinking his eyes and meowing in a baby kitty voice… and it just melts me to the floor.

Sure enough that’s when he wants to be held, smooched and talked to (which I absolutely Love by the way). I also adore his content purr I swear it’s my therapy. When I’m holding him or we’re spooning together it reverberates through my entire being, and if I’m not careful it’s so relaxing I’ll fall asleep.

So this Valentine’s Day Season don’t forget to acknowledge and celebrate the furry love of your life, or in some cases not so furry. Gift them a heart shaped treat or new toy and of course plenty of kisses, snuggles and playtime to let them know they’re appreciated and the world would feel empty without them.

So what does your pet do that let’s you know they’re saying I love you? We’d love for you to share your stories with us!

Happy Valentine’s Day! and Remember Pets Rule!

“Can you hear it? Take Me Home P-L-E-A-S-E… I want live with you.”

As you probably already know there are thousands of lovable animals in our local shelters and “Beijo’s Corner” places as many as we can in loving homes as quickly as we can. Many of these animals were pets and they were surrendered for various reasons.

Some of them are pure breeds… yes pure breeds (actually over the years the number of abandoned pets that are pure breeds have doubled) so obviously that doesn’t hold as much merit as some people used to think.

People surrender pets for all kinds of reasons and it is very traumatic for the animal. Think about it… In their minds you are their entire universe. They live, eat and breathe YOU and their main goal is to unconditionally love and be loved in return.

When they lose their home it causes tremendous stress and heartbreak to them. They develop all kinds of health issues physically, mentally and most of all emotionally.

After such an experience most animals develop fear and anxiety for humans and other animals. They, to put it mildly don’t trust anyone anymore. But wait… there’s hope!

This is the part I love. Placing an abandoned animal in the right loving family can cure a multitude of emotional wounds. They are usually quite forgiving and willing to start over with a clean slate and a new lease on life.

The awesome part about this process is you!… YES you will be their hero. Because you will let them see life in a whole new light and show them that everybody deserves a second chance.

I’ve personally seen and believe abandoned animals and shelter animals are the best!

Of course I’m partial “Beijo” was an orphan on the street when we found each other and it’s been HEAVEN ever since.

With a little patience and a lot of LOVE and dedication these animals that were once thrown away will end up being the most Loyal, Affectionate friend/love one you’ll ever experience and they will spend the rest of their days proving to you how grateful they are.

One other important note to mention here. This is why it is sooo crucially necessary to spray and neuter your pet. It will cut down on this epidemic of overpopulated unwanted animals and there are lots of benefits for them also.

Mainly their attitudes and moods are better (they are more balanced & docile) and believe it or not it increases their life span. And of course they retain their individual personality but they are definitely calmer and you have less behavioral issues and who wouldn’t want that?

We at “Beijo’s Corner” have always placed pets in loving homes. But now we have Partner Foster Homes that allow us to do more of this kind of service. F.Y.I. know that when you get a pet from us they will come to you fixed, micro chipped and with their current shots ready to be loved by their new family. Most of the time potty trained, but if not we can help with that also.

Having pets is such a BLESSING that we want everyone to experience that joy and magnitude of love for themselves. We are here to serve you in all your pets needs and are happy and honored to do so. Thank you for trusting your furry family members to us.

Remember Pets Rule!

Who can resists a new puppy or kitten? Look at those eyes, those cute little paws, that nose and ooh they’re sooo cuddly!

Not to be a downer or anything because we at “Beijo’s Corner” want all pets to be placed in a loving home and spoiled beyond human capacity with love. But… there are some very important things to consider before adding a cute family member to your home.

Having a new pet is a HUGE responsibility. I mean this little life has just been placed in your hands. So the obvious question first… Do you have the time?

A baby anything requires a lot of deliberate set aside time to devote to your little one and is very, very necessary for emotional bonding. Not to mention the $$$ investments, and the cleaning up of poop and other baby issues.

Also the holidays are usually filled with all the stress of the hustle & bustle of the season that in most cases it’s best to wait until they have passed and life has gotten back to it’s normal routine. Then you can give your new addition to the family the attention they deserve, because we don’t want any returned gifts.

For the rest of you that have prepared for your new pet to be welcomed in your home having a new puppy or kitty is AWESOME!!! All the new memories, stories and laughter to come is priceless. Just remember to have a good camera ready and pre-warn all your family and FB friends to be prepared.

New pets add tremendous life to the family they move in your heart and soon you can’t picture what your life was like before they arrived.

So having said all that here are some ways to make the transition of bringing a new pet home go smoothly for all involved.

1. Make sure the puppy or kitty you’ve chosen is a good fit for you & your family. Think about it… if you are a laid back person you DON’T want a pet that has a hyper personality, it is RARELY a good fit and one of you or both is bound to suffer and be unhappy.

Try to get a pet that mirrors your personality you’ll bond that much quicker and the transition will go smoothly.

2. Decide beforehand what parts of the house and your life are pet friendly. For example do you want your pet to sleep in the bed with you or should they have their own bed to sleep in? This decision makes it clear and simple for everyone. Or if you get a cat is it okay to walk on the kitchen counters or not?

Examining questions like these before you get a pet bring clarity to what you want/need and what you don’t want/need from your pet and your relationship and most of all keep things harmonious and peaceful.

3. Also, what training are you going to give your pet? What are you expecting from your pet, and is it realistic? What kind of diet is best for your pet? We at “Beijo’s Corner” are here to be of service to you and all your pet needs.

It would be our honor serve you and your furry family members to be the solution to all your pet questions and issues. We want no animal to it’s home because of a bad fit, behavior or miscommunication.

Having a pet is a blessing! They add sooo much love, laughter and memories to the home!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS Everybody! Remember Pets Rule!!!

“Is this a familiar scene at your house? If not… maybe it should be. Everybody loves to celebrate Thanksgiving and we pets need to be included in the festivities too, the right way!”

“So now having said this we at “Beijo’s Corner” want to share our favorite Thanksgiving pet recipes with you so your furry family members can participate with their own feasts while you partake of yours.”

“Yeah I know we’re always up for trying whatever you have on your plate.. but that’s because we smell the delicious aroma filling the house while you cook. All the more reason to give us something special and delicious of our very own to look forward to.”

“I’m talking about going all out here with our own special holiday themed bowls and place mats. You’d be surprised to see how excited we get when we recognize something special is being prepared just for us.”

“Also serve our food right when everyone is sitting down to dinner so we can be involved in the social scene. This will help us feel included and cut down on begging and behavioral issues.”

“On a serious note turkey bones ARE NOT GOOD FOR US! Did you know they cause tears in our intestines? Or worse get lodged in throats and do not digest well and may not be detected until there’s a problem… so let’s just not indulge in bones period.”

“SO NOW LET’S COOK!!!”

Kitty & Doggie Turkey/Chicken Pot Pie Stew

Ingredients:

- 6 cups of water

- 1 pound of ground Turkey/Chicken (free range)

- 2 cups organic brown rice

- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary

- 1/2 (16 ounce) packaged organic frozen broccoli, carrots and cauliflower

Directions:

1. Place water, ground free range turkey/chicken, rice and rosemary into a large pot together.

2. Stir until the ground turkey/chicken is broken up and evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

3. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to low and let simmer for 20 minutes.

4. Add frozen vegetables and cook for an additional 5 minutes.

5. Remove from heat and cool. Refrigerate until ready for serving

MMM! MMM! MMM! PET FABULOUS!!!

Doggie Dessert To Howl For! - Sweet Potato Doggie Yummies

Ingredients:

- 1 sweet potato

- 2 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour ( or whatever kind of flour you like)

- 1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce

- 2 eggs

Directions:

1. Cook sweet potato until tender – (prick sweet potato with a fork to make sure it’s tender) discard skin.

2. Mash potato with a fork or potato masher and transfer 1 cup to a larger bowl – (save any remaining sweet potato for another use).

3. Mix whole wheat flour, applesauce and eggs in the large bowl with the sweet potato until dough forms.

4. Turn dough out on a well floured surface and roll dough out to 1/2 inch thick. Cut out shapes using a cookie cutter (we like a doggie bone cookie cutter – but you pick what you like).

5. Arrange cookies on an ungreased baking sheet – bake until crisp 35 to 45 minutes. Cool in the pans before removing to cool completely on a wire rack. MMM MMM GOOD WOOF!

Purrfect Kitty Dessert – Yummy Tuna Dreams

Ingredients:

- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil (more if needed).

- 2 cups of canned low sodium tuna in oil

- 4 cups of whole grain bread crumbs

- 2 teaspoons brewers yeast (optional – but usually we like it and it’s good for us).

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) lightly grese a baking sheet with vegetable oil.

2. Drain tuna and reserve oil; add enough vegetable oil to make 1/4 cup total.

3. Combine tuna, reserved oil, bread crumbs, eggs and brewers yeast in a bowl.

4. Drop 1/4 teaspoon of tuna mixture 1 inch apart onto the prepared baking sheet (I like mine shaped like little fish).

5. Bake in the preheated oven until set . About 10 minutes. Cool biscuits and store covered in the refrigerator. MMM MMM MEOWRIFIC!

“let us know how your furry family members enjoyed our dishes and please feel free to share some of your favorite recipes with us!”

“Whoopie It’s Fall! You humans aren’t the only ones that enjoy this time of year. The changing of the leaves, the crisp air… what can I say diving into a pile of freshly fallen leaves is to die for in my opinion.”

“Just to hear the crunching of the leaves under our feet as we walk is exhilarating. Not to mention the great camouflage covering a pile of brightly colored leaves leaves creates to give one awesome pouncing opportunities.”

“Oh yeah the hidden mysteries under a pile of leaves are endless you never know what you’ll find. We enjoy basking in the soft sunlight as the crisp fall air tickles our noses and gently blows our fur. The earth tones that this time of year produces helps most of us blend in so we’re virtually unseen in the open to the naked eye.”

“Which produces great vantage points for us to view our wide open territory. This season always brings a sense of peace of it’s own. It’s more tranquil and quiet than summer except for the occasional rustling of leaves.”

“Don’t get me wrong I love summer but fall just has a way to make one chill (not to say that any kitty doesn’t know how to master chilling out if you know what I mean).

“So on the health tip please don’t forget to check our ears a little more often this time of year for pesty ear mites (you will be given a hint if we are shaking our head of leaning to one side scratching our ears) and anything else trying to hitch a ride on our beautiful fur.”

“Each season has it’s diverse beauty and issues and we appreciate them all. My sincere desire is that all my fellow furry members have a safe, warm place to live this season and a nice loving family to cuddle up to with a lovely cracking fire and most of Peace & Harmony… God Bless You All Remember Pets Rule!

“First of all let me say For the most part I believe the majority of us do our due diligence when it comes to picking up our pets deposits. Although… some of you how should I put it SUCK!”

“C’mon people we have to be considerate of one another when it involves this subject and our beautiful surroundings. Not to be all preachy and judgmental, but the truth of the matter is nobody likes to deal with poop.”

“When you decide to add a furry family member ( or in some cases not so furry ) to your household this responsibility just comes with the package. I mean think about it this is your baby a member of your family through the good times and bad times, sick or healthy ( hopefully healthy ).”

“I have personally experienced one of the main reasons that people hate animals is because of the excrement being left in public environments as well as their own personal lawns.”

“I have actually witnessed pet owners kicking their dogs poop under bushes, or worse after their dog has finished his business they just walk away. There have been a couple of occasions where I have confronted these individuals.”

“For the most part I usually just pick it up and dispose of it myself ( which I really shouldn’t have to do ). There really is no reason excuse for this inconsiderate behavior.”

Most public places such as, walking trails and parks provide little baggies specifically for this reason and there are trash receptacles everywhere. “So why do you think this keeps happening?”

“The worst part of this scenario is people don’t blame the the owners they blame the animals which result in inhumane thinking and treatment of them. This issue really is directly connected to this topic of animal intolerance and it can be simply avoided and prevented.”

“If we pet owners all pitch in and do our share to clean up after our furry family members it would help to abolish this bad/negative attitude toward animals. Again I realize that this only applies to some of you.”

“Think about it if you look through the entire animal kingdom they ( the animals ) have some kind of system when it comes to handling waste. Most of them bury it somehow with leaves or just kick dirt over it.”

“We at Beijo’s Corner try to help people view animals in the best light possible. We promote coexistence with animals as our fellow beings sharing this planet with us and worthy of our respect.”

“So maybe if we all decide to be a little more conscious about this subject we can all get along that much better and who doesn’t need or want that a little more comradery and peace?”

“Let us know how you feel about this subject in the comment box below we love hearing from you guys… and remember Pets Rule!”

“Well, personally I believe YES! So what exactly is Pet Whispering Anyway? First of all let’s take all the weirdness out of it! ( No Disrespect Intended Here ). Pet Whispering simply put is connecting and communicating with a pet on a more intuitive level.”

“Yes I know that everyone loves and adores their furry family members and is closer to them than anyone else in the world. But just like raising a child everyone needs a little help now and again.”

Sometimes in many cases the closest ones to us may not be able to get through and solve some of the challenging issues that exists. Or in most cases don’t recognize what’s causing the problems in the first place because they’re too close to the situation.

A trained professional in this area will observe your pet and you in your home environment and assess the root of the challenge you’re facing and in most cases what’s causing it ( we’re not there to judge you… but to help ).

You will be given a personalized consultation, diagnosis and solution for you and your furry family member and homework to get the desired results you want and need. In many cases one of the main roots causing certain behaviors in pets come from the owners… Yep that’s right you.

So in most cases the humans in the family are included in the homework to improve the relationship with the pet as well as the home environment. Having a pet is a great responsibility.

They are an extension of your family and not only have physical needs but emotional ones as well. Pet Whispering is a great tool that can enhance your relationship with your pet and your entire family.

Getting to the root of what makes your pets act the way they do and how to solve challenges that are frustrating you brings balance to everyone involved… and who wouldn’t want that right?

“Pets are constantly trying to communicate with us. The problem is sometimes the message gets lost in translation.” Pet Whispering not only brings the clarity you want but the harmony you & they need.

“There’s no such thing as a bad pet only a misunderstood one.” At Beijo’s Corner we unite pets and families around the world in a loving humane way so no animal has to lose his/her home… or worse be killed.

Improving your pets quality of life is our goal and with our 5 Step Cat & Dog Whispering Consultations most challenges can be solved efficiently and fairly quickly so you and your pet can thrive together living life to the fullest.

Looking forward to working with you all. Remember Pets Rule!!!
